Möbel Olfe
Kreuzberg’s queer cult pub by Kotti
Walk down Reichenberger Straße from Kottbusser Tor and you’ll find one of Berlin’s most easygoing queer hangouts. Möbel Olfe isn’t a place to see and be seen. Gay men, lesbians, FLINTA* folks and friends come here to drink and chat, and in the evening it can get loud.
The name gives away its past: “Möbel” means furniture, and the space used to be a furniture shop. The interior nods to that with a wink, with old chairs hanging from the ceiling. Add raw concrete pillars, white tiles, pink neon and a disco ball you can spot from the street through the big shop windows.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Drinks are down to earth: Polish beer, including a house beer said to be one of the cheapest in the area, and around 20 kinds of Polish vodka. The long drinks are known for being generously poured. On DJ nights the music runs from old-school house to hi-NRG and disco.
WHICH NIGHT FOR WHOM?
Tuesday is FLINTA* night, with a DJ from 9pm. Thursday is “Schwulenschubsen” (roughly “gay shoving”), which has been the busiest night of the week for years. On Fridays rotating DJs take over. Check moebel-olfe.de for the current line-up.
WHO IT’S FOR
Anyone looking for a mixed neighbourhood pub with no door policy and no dress code, and a good first stop before heading on into Kreuzberg’s nightlife.
