What makes Prosecco special

Prosecco is on the edge of the Glockenbachviertel, a few steps from the Viktualienmarkt. It’s a bar and club in one: in a small space there’s a dance floor that’s usually well filled. The many mirrors on the ceiling make the room look bigger, the lighting is atmospheric, and by 10 or 11 pm things are already in full swing.

The two owners have turned the former Schlager pub into a queer address that is deliberately open to everyone. The crowd is relatively young, most are between 18 and 35, plus a large core of regulars. Women like to party here too, usually with their gay friends. The mood on the dance floor is exuberant, and most guests aren’t averse to a flirt.

Musically it’s mainly Schlager and charts. Regular dates: on the first Thursday of the month there’s drag bingo, and on the second Thursday a Schlager night. Prosecco announces further programme in its Instagram highlights. In summer it gets very warm inside, and out of consideration for the neighbours the team asks guests to talk quietly outside the door. Nil and Drei Glöcklein are just around the corner.
