What makes the Humsafar Trust stand out

The Trust was founded in 1994, among others by journalist Ashok Row Kavi. It remains one of India’s most important LGBTQ organisations. Its work covers health, equality, training and research. The centre offers counselling, confidential HIV tests, hospital referrals and an HIV treatment clinic. The clinic charges an annual fee of ₹1,000, and some medication is free. You can come for tests without an appointment.

There are several groups: Yaariyan is for young queers and has organised flash mobs in Mumbai for years, Umang is aimed at lesbian, bisexual and trans women, and Sanjeevani supports people living with HIV.

Atmosphere and crowd

The services are aimed at the whole LGBTQ community. If you’re new in town, the groups are a quick way to connect.
