How we work

The Gay Atlas is an independent travel guide to queer places and events. This is how our content is created:

Research & checks

Venues and events come from our own research, tips from organisers and readers, and publicly available sources such as operators’ websites. We don’t copy other providers’ databases. Scene venues often close or change their opening hours – we check entries regularly and note the date of the last check. Found a mistake? Let us know.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with research, structure and first drafts. Every text is read and edited by a person before it is published. Facts such as addresses, opening hours, prices and dates are not taken unchecked from AI output but compared with the source. We do not use AI to generate images depicting real places.

Advertising & independence

Listings are free. We clearly label paid placements and affiliate links as “Ad” or “Advertising link”. They have no influence on our descriptions.

Safety

For every country we state the legal situation for LGBTQ+ travellers. In countries where homosexuality is persecuted, we do not publish the addresses of scene venues.
