Munich is more relaxed than its reputation suggests. The scene is concentrated almost entirely in one neighbourhood: the Glockenbachviertel around Gärtnerplatz. Bars, cafés and clubs are so close together here that you can spend the whole evening on foot. On top of that come three dates you’ll only find in Munich: the PrideWeeks in June, the gay Wiesn Sunday and a queer Christmas market of its own.
The Glockenbachviertel
Around Müllerstraße, Hans-Sachs-Straße and Gärtnerplatz, rainbow flags hang in many windows. During the day people sit at Café NiL or Kraftwerk; in the evening they head to cosy pubs such as Edelheiss, and later to the Schlager bar Prosecco. If you’re looking for leather and fetish, Ochsengarten is a reliable address. For dancing, many head to NY.Club near the main station.
When to go?
- June – PrideWeeks and CSD: Weeks full of parties, talks and concerts, followed by the PolitParade through the city centre and RathausClubbing in the New Town Hall. In 2026 the parade took place on 27 June.
- Oktoberfest – Rosa Wiesn: On the first Sunday of the Wiesn, the scene traditionally celebrates in the Bräurosl tent.
- Advent – Pink Christmas: The queer Christmas market on Stephansplatz in the heart of the Glockenbachviertel, from 20 November to 20 December in 2026.
Our favourites
- For the afternoon: Café NiL with its Egyptian flair and hearty food.
- For a beer with friends: Edelheiss on Pestalozzistraße.
- For late evenings: Prosecco – Schlager, disco balls and a packed dance floor.
