Bangkok is the queer capital of Southeast Asia – loud, warm-hearted and, since January 2025, even with same-sex marriage. Between Silom, Sukhumvit and rooftop bars, everyone finds their kind of night here, from a relaxed cocktail to a party until dawn.
Silom: Soi 2 and Soi 4
The heart of the scene beats around Sala Daeng BTS station, where two short side streets off Silom Road bring almost everything together. On Soi 4 the bars line up one after another: the evening starts on the terrace of The Balcony, things are calmer at BAS Living Room, and the tiny The Stranger Bar has drag almost every night. When it’s time to dance after midnight, the crowd moves on to Soi 2 and DJ Station, Thailand’s most famous gay club. If you’re looking for great drag artistry, head over to Ratchaprasong for House of Heals, and for a few relaxing hours the Krubb Bangkok sauna in Phra Khanong is worth a visit. Thais, expats and tourists mix naturally everywhere, and the hospitality is legendary.
When to go?
- May/June – Bangkok Pride Festival: In 2026 the festival ran from 28 May to 1 June, and the big parade went from Silom Road to the National Stadium on 31 May. The whole city celebrates, and the bars in Silom are packed.
- April – gCircuit Songkran: At Thai New Year, the world’s largest water fight combines with international circuit parties (check dates with the organiser).
Our favourites
- DJ Station – Bangkok’s dance institution, a heaving crowd from 1am
- House of Heals – world-class drag with real star quality
- The Stranger Bar – small stage, big show, right on Soi 4

Practical tips
- Since 23 January 2025 same-sex couples have been able to marry in Thailand – the first country in Southeast Asia to allow it. Holding hands in Silom is completely normal; outside the nightlife districts people are a little more reserved.
- The BTS and MRT only run until around midnight. After that, the best way back to your hotel is by Grab or a metered taxi.
- In some bars around Silom, rent boys also work. If you just want to party, say a friendly “No, thank you” and keep an eye on your drinks bill.
