What makes the Colombian special
The Colombian is at the intersection of Oxford and Crown Street, right on Sydney’s traditional gay strip, along which the Mardi Gras parade passes every year. On the ground floor there is a bar with booths and large windows onto the street, above it a lounge bar and at the very top a rooftop bar with live music.
The venue now belongs to the Iris Capital Group. With opening hours from 9 am to 6 am, the Colombian is often the first and sometimes also the last stop on a long night on Oxford Street. On Tuesdays there is trivia followed by Draggieoke, and DJs play at weekends.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed: locals from Darlinghurst and Surry Hills, tourists and groups of friends. During the week it is rather relaxed, good for an after-work drink. At weekends it gets full and loud, with dancing upstairs.
A good fit if you …
- want to party right on Oxford Street
- are looking for a bar that is still open very late
- fancy trivia and drag karaoke on a Tuesday
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a men-only bar
- want a quiet evening at the weekend
