What makes Industry Bar special

Industry opened in December 2010 in a former garage on West 52nd Street. It was founded by Bob Pontarelli and Stephen Heighton, who had been running New York nightlife together since 1991 and were also behind Barracuda and the restaurant Elmo. The design, with leather sofas, disco balls, a pool table and a long wooden bar, is loosely inspired by Berlin’s Berghain.

Every night around 11 pm there is a show: the Kizha Carr Show on Sundays, “Spotlight Mondays”, “Star Search” on Tuesdays, “Pixie’s Big Adventure” on Wednesdays and the long-running drag night “Queen” with Brenda Dharling on Thursdays. On Fridays and Saturdays DJs play from 10 pm and the space becomes a dance floor.

Atmosphere and crowd

The crowd is mainly gay men between their mid-20s and mid-40s, plus many guests from abroad. At happy hour it is a relaxed after-work hangout; at weekends it gets very full after midnight. The drag shows, the well-mixed drinks and the party atmosphere get praise.
