The historic anchors are the Blue Chairs under palm-thatched umbrellas, recognisable by the rainbow flag, and the Green Chairs of Ritmos Beach Café. The zone now stretches south to Mantamar Beach Club and north to Sapphire Ocean Club.Beach vendors offer mango, prawn skewers, blankets and silver jewellery; a friendly “No, gracias” is enough. Margaritas by the bucket and banana boats are part of the scene. It isn’t a nudist beach; swimwear stays on.Atmosphere and crowdBetween midday and sunset the sand is firmly in queer hands. The crowd is international, with many from Canada, the USA and Mexico. It’s busiest in the winter season and during Pride in May.
