What makes Queen stand out
Itaewon is Seoul’s most international neighbourhood, and the so-called Homo Hill, a steep alley packed with bars, was long the centre of the queer scene. Queen was a fixture there for years and was named one of the city’s best gay clubs by Time Out Seoul as early as 2015. It has since moved to Bogwang-ro.
The club is small and packed at weekends, with music ranging from K-pop to international hits. It’s only open on Fridays and Saturdays, but then until 6 am.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is a lively mix of locals and expats, and the mood is exuberant. People dance here rather than talk. One visitor writes that she has never felt as comfortable in any bar in South Korea.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for a packed, loud weekend night
- want to dance to K-pop
- want to meet locals and expats
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out during the week
- are looking for a quiet bar to talk
