What makes Cranberry special

Cranberry at Metzgergasse 3 opened in autumn 1997, making it one of the city’s longest-running queer bars. Zürich Tourism calls it one of Zurich’s best-known gay bars, and the bar describes itself as the city’s most popular queer cocktail bar. The focus is clearly on the drinks: classic cocktails, house creations and a long menu. In the Falstaff Bar Guide 2026 Cranberry scores 90 out of 100 points.

Downstairs you sit between old stone walls right at the bar. Upstairs is the Campari Room with sofas and a pool table, renovated in 2021 and open on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 pm. During the week it can be hired for private events. In summer there are tables outside in the lane.

Crowd and atmosphere

The crowd is mostly male and gay, but explicitly open to everyone, including friends of the community. During the week many come straight from work for a drink, and the mood is relaxed and chatty. At weekends the bar fills up from around 10 pm and gets loud and lively.

Thanks to its location in the middle of the Niederdorf, Cranberry is the first stop of the night for many. Heaven Club, Kweer and the Tip Top Bar are all a few minutes’ walk away.
