What makes the Tip Top Bar special

The Tip Top Bar is at Seilergraben 13, below the university and just a few steps from the Niederdorf. The room is small, the decor changes with the seasons, and the focus is on the music: Schlager plus classics from ABBA and Boney M. The bar sums up its programme briefly as Schlager, men and drinks.

The bar is named after Petra, the stage persona of owner Peter Williner. His drag performances are considered cult in Zurich – Zürich Tourism calls them legendary. Together with his team he makes sure newcomers quickly feel like regulars. Besides the performances there are regular theme nights such as quizzes and seasonal specials.

Crowd and atmosphere

The crowd is very mixed, young and older sitting side by side. Many come from the neighbourhood and know each other; first-timers still end up chatting quickly. Guests describe the bar as cosy and warm, with the charm of a local pub.

Because the room is small, it fills up early at weekends. If you want a seat, come right after opening. Take tram 3 or bus 31 to Neumarkt and you’re there in a few minutes; on foot from the main station it’s about ten minutes.
