What makes The Lisbon special
The Lisbon is on Victoria Street on the edge of the Pride Quarter, as Liverpool’s gay quarter around Stanley Street has officially been called since 2021. The pub is often described as the city’s oldest gay meeting place; the scene has been gathering here since the 1960s. The most striking feature is the ornate Victorian ceiling in the bar room.
Real ale and Guinness are served, there is a second bar in the cellar, plus pizza and a pool table.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed, from mid-20s to over 60. Guests write that The Lisbon is at its best when it is busy, so on Friday and Saturday evenings. The staff are praised as very friendly.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience a historic pub
- like real ale and Guinness
- are out until 2 am at the weekend
Not ideal if you …
- are out on a Monday, when it is closed
- are looking for a club with a dance floor
