What makes Beaux special
At Beaux’s address, the Missouri Mule opened in 1963 as the Castro’s first gay bar. Today Beaux is a bar and club in one, with DJs, go-go dancers and drag shows that regularly feature well-known queens from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.
During the week the bar opens in the afternoon, at weekends at noon, when there is drag brunch. The dance floor gets really full on Fridays and Saturdays after 11 pm.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is young, loud and exuberant, and many come to dance and for the shows. The drag shows, the go-gos and the atmosphere on the dance floor get praise. In the Castro, Beaux is the first choice when the night is going to be a long one.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance in the Castro
- like drag and go-gos
- are rather between 20 and 35
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a quiet bar to talk
- are under 21
