What makes the hotel special
GayOut lists The Hotel Castro as a gay-popular hotel with a mixed LGBTQ+ crowd. The location is hard to beat: the rainbow crosswalks, bars, cafés and the Castro Theatre are a few minutes away. It is a modern alternative to the older hotels on Market Street.
Rooms and amenities
The rooms are small but clean and modern, with good bathrooms and comfortable beds. Check-in is contactless, and there is no staffed reception; the hotel bar has its own entrance. The lack of an on-site contact person and extra fees, for example for early check-in, are criticised.
A good fit if you …
- want to stay right in the Castro
- value modern, clean rooms
- are comfortable with self check-in
Not ideal if you …
- expect personal service at reception
