What makes the hotel special
GayOut describes the Trixie Motel as openly LGBTQ+-run with a strongly queer clientele; the owner is Trixie Mattel, who documented the renovation in her own TV series. It’s less a retreat than an experience: pink retro design, Barbie aesthetics and a pool bar where fans from all over the world raise a glass.
Rooms and amenities
Each room has its own theme, such as Queen of Hearts or Atomic Bombshell. There’s a heated saltwater pool, the Barbara Bar, a breakfast basket and free Wi-Fi. Guests praise the staff, decor and drinks; criticism includes squeaky beds and thin walls in the older building.
A good fit if you …
- love drag, kitsch and pop culture
- are looking for a unique queer photo backdrop
- are travelling with friends
Not ideal if you …
- want to walk to the bars
- are looking for a quiet clothing-optional resort
