Palm Springs is the gay oasis in the Californian desert – with mid-century villas, men’s resorts and a bar strip that’s already busy at lunchtime. Here the day is spent by the pool and the evening on Arenas Road.

Arenas Road & Warm Sands

The nightlife is concentrated on short Arenas Road downtown, where Hunters, the long-established Streetbar and Chill Bar are only a few steps apart. If you prefer more leather, head a few blocks further to the Tool Shed, and for drag shows go to Toucans Tiki Lounge on North Palm Canyon Drive. Where you stay is part of the experience here: clothing-optional men’s resorts such as the Santiago Resort or INNdulge define the Warm Sands and San Lorenzo neighbourhoods. Many bars open as early as the morning, and happy hours often stretch into the evening.

When to go?

• November – Greater Palm Springs Pride: In 2026 Pride celebrates its 40th anniversary from 6 to 8 November, with the parade along Palm Canyon Drive on Sunday.
• September/October – The Dinah: One of the world’s largest festivals for lesbian and queer women; from 30 September to 4 October in 2026.

Practical tips

• In summer temperatures often climb above 40 degrees – the main season is from October to April, when the resorts get booked up quickly.
• In the men’s resorts, clothing-optional usually only applies to the pool and communal areas; the house rules are on their websites.
• Arenas Road is walkable; for Toucans or resorts in Warm Sands, a bike or rideshare is worthwhile.
