What makes El Taller stand out
“El Taller” means workshop, and the basement club on Calle Florencia is as raw as a workshop. It opened in 1986 and was a scene meeting point for decades. It closed in 2013 before the Cabaré-Tito group, one of the best-known gay groups in the city, revived it.
Today there are drag tributes, DJ sets and go-go dancers every night. On Sundays the club is open to men only, with its own show. Later in the night the basement gets increasingly cruisy.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mostly male, rather mature and mainly local, and the mood is honest and unpolished. The atmosphere and shows get praise. If you know the polished side of the Zona Rosa, this is its counterpart.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience a scene legend without the gloss
- like drag and go-go
- want to party among Mexicans
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a chic venue
- are out on a Monday
