What makes O Bar stand out
O Bar opened on 15 December 2005 in what was then the nightlife district of Malate and is now based at CW Home Depot in Ortigas Center, Pasig. Its co-owner and artistic director is Rupert Acuña. The Philippine Star called O Bar the city’s biggest drag hub, and some performers are employed here permanently.
Contestants from Drag Race Philippines perform regularly, including Marina Summers, Precious Paula Nicole, Brigiding and Captivating Katkat. Guest performers have included Manila Luzon, Jiggly Caliente, Adore Delano and Pangina Heals. The programme features lip-sync numbers, parodies, go-go and acrobatics. The main show usually starts around 1 am and lasts into the early morning.
Atmosphere and crowd
The shows are loud, funny and very close to the audience: for laughing, screaming and dancing along. The crowd is mixed queer, many come with groups of friends to celebrate birthdays, plus travellers who want to experience Filipino drag culture. Google reviews praise the energy of the shows and the friendly staff.
The air conditioning is strong, so a light jacket is handy. At weekends, tables go quickly.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience top-level Filipino drag
- follow Drag Race Philippines
- want to party until the morning on Friday or Saturday
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out Monday to Wednesday
- are looking for a quiet bar to talk
