What makes Briefkasten special
Gaststätte Im Briefkasten is a classic Ruhr pub with a bar on the ground floor and a second room upstairs. Landlord Jörg and his team are repeatedly praised for their warmth in Google reviews, and many guests describe the atmosphere as relaxed and open. The pub is explicitly LGBTQ-friendly.
The menu features draught beer, Fassbrause and hearty snacks such as homemade potato salad and meatballs. Prices are considered fair. Thanks to its location between the main station and hotels, besides regulars many travellers drop by for a nightcap, and you quickly get chatting at the bar.
Briefkasten opens daily, at weekends from midday or from 10 am on Sundays. For a longer evening it combines well with gentleM on Kettwiger Straße.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for an uncomplicated pub with a warm landlord
- like beer and home cooking
- want a nightcap near the station
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a gay-only bar, gentleM and Zum Pümpchen are the places for that
- want to dance
