What makes Coming Out stand out

Via di San Giovanni in Laterano between the Colosseum and the Lateran Basilica is known as Rome’s Gay Street, and Coming Out is its oldest fixture. Since 2001 it has been open from breakfast until late at night: a café and restaurant by day, and in the evening a bar with tables on the street and a view of the Colosseum.

According to its own website, the evening programme is packed: bingo with drag queens on Mondays, the “Spin the Rainbow” wheel of fortune on Wednesdays, drag show with DJ set from Thursday to Saturday and a dinner show on Sundays. If you want to eat, you can spend the whole evening here.

Atmosphere and crowd

It gets busy from early evening, and on the street Coming Out’s guests mix with those of the neighbouring My Bar. The crowd is mixed: Romans from the scene, travellers from all over the world, men and women, many between 25 and 50. Guests on Google praise the friendly staff, the ambience and the coffee.

For dancing, move on afterwards to the clubs, for example to Muccassassina on Fridays.
