What makes the hostel special
Travel Gay lists Generator in its Hamburg hotel guide as “gay-popular” and stresses that the gay bars of St. Georg are “within 10 minutes’ walk”; GayOut also lists it as gay-friendly. It is not a queer hostel, but the cheapest way to stay within walking distance of Hamburg’s rainbow neighbourhood.
Rooms and amenities
On the ground floor there’s a bar with a terrace, plus lockers, workspaces and Wi-Fi. Breakfast and towels cost extra. Guests praise the location, beds and price, but criticise small bathrooms, noise at peak times, variable cleanliness and the restless station surroundings at night.
A good fit if you …
- want to go to St. Georg on a small budget
- like a hostel atmosphere with a bar
- are arriving by train
Not ideal if you …
- expect peace and quiet and lots of space
- feel uncomfortable around the station at night
