What makes the hotel special
Deutsche Eiche is closely linked to Munich’s gay history: after the war artists and homosexuals met here, Rainer Werner Fassbinder made the place his second living room, and Freddie Mercury frequented it too. The current owners, Dietmar Holzapfel and Sepp Sattler, took over the building in the 1990s and developed it into a queer hotel with an attached bathhouse. The website has a dedicated LGBT page, names the Safe Space Alliance as a partner and points to the hotel’s commitment to the #positivarbeiten initiative of Deutsche Aidshilfe.
Rooms and amenities
The modern renovated rooms are kept simple, and the range goes from single rooms to double rooms and a junior suite to an apartment for up to four people. 24-hour reception, breakfast in the in-house restaurant, a roof terrace with a view over the city, and massages bookable via reception. Male hotel guests aged 18 and over get the day pass for the bathhouse with sauna, steam room and bar at a discount. On Hotels.com the hotel scores 9.4 out of 10 from around 1,000 reviews.
