What makes Merchant Pride special
Merchant Pride is on Candleriggs in the Merchant City, the nightlife district with most of Glasgow’s gay bars. The building used to be known under names such as Waxworks and McCool’s, and it has been a gay pub since the mid-2000s. John Street with Underground, Speakeasy and the other bars is just a few minutes’ walk away.
There are weekly karaoke and DJ nights and a pool table. Entertainment is the most common keyword in the reviews, especially Sunday afternoons with live singers.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is very mixed, young people as well as older regulars. Guests praise the atmosphere and the music, which you can hear from outside.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for a classic pub with entertainment
- want to hear live singing on a Sunday
- like a mixed crowd of all ages
Not ideal if you …
- want to keep partying after midnight
- want a chic cocktail bar
