What makes Mor Kedi stand out

Mor Kedi started as a café serving late breakfast and lunch and gradually became a bar. If you don’t know it, it’s easy to walk past: it’s on the third floor and looks unremarkable from the street. Inside, pop videos play, and there are corner tables for dates and room for groups of friends before heading to the club.

In Google reviews, guests praise the relaxed, open atmosphere, the attentive staff and fair prices. The food goes down well too, such as curry chicken with fries to share. On the current situation: in June 2026 the authorities in Istanbul had the long-established gay bar Tek Yön closed, and in mid-September 2026 nationwide police operations followed against LGBTI organisations and meeting places, with 26 people arrested in Istanbul alone. We have not been able to reliably establish whether Mor Kedi is currently open.

The crowd is young, local and mixed. It’s busiest between midnight and 2 am, when many drop by before the club. Musically, Turkish pop dominates.
