What makes Roosterfish special
The original Roosterfish on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice is considered one of the oldest gay bars on the Westside of Los Angeles. The West Hollywood offshoot moved in 2023 into the former PUMP restaurant premises on the corner of Robertson and Santa Monica Boulevard and, according to Out x Out, operates under a name licence rather than jointly with the original.
Everything here is bigger than in Venice: open indoor and outdoor areas and a menu of light, uncomplicated Italian food. The calamari, for example, gets praise. It’s liveliest at happy hour and in the evening at the weekend.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed and a bit more settled than in the clubs next door. Ideal for dinner with friends before carrying on along the boulevard.
A good fit if you …
- want to eat in peace before going out
- want to sit outside
- are out with a mixed group
Not ideal if you …
- want to dance
- are looking for a pub with a regulars’ feel
