What makes Schwule Sau special
Schwule Sau is not a classic bar with fixed opening hours, but a queer cultural centre in the Nordstadt. Groups and associations meet here to put on parties, lovingly staged bar nights, concerts, theatre, talks and even cake-eating sessions. The venue is non-profit and non-commercial, and all income flows back into the project.
Among the best-known series are the men’s party SAU:KERLE, which usually takes place on Saturdays from 10 pm, the popular Schlagersau, drag shows such as Dragtopia, the FLINTA* Bar and Sau:Theater with its own productions. Many regulars have been coming for more than 30 years, while young people also celebrate their first queer parties here.
Schwule Sau sees itself as a safe space for everyone: gay, lesbian, bi, trans, inter, non-binary and friends. Which event takes place when is listed in the programme on the website.
A good fit if you …
- like queer parties with community-club charm
- want to see theatre, concerts and drag
- want to support a community project
Not ideal if you …
- want to drop by spontaneously on any evening, it’s only open during events
- are looking for a quiet bar to talk, Martinos and Burgklause are the places for that
