What makes The Balcony stand out
The Balcony is one of the oldest bars on Silom Soi 4, Bangkok’s best-known gay lane. Its heart is the terrace right on the lane, from which you can watch people come and go. Upstairs there’s a second bar and karaoke rooms, and occasionally benefit shows.
The menu has Thai and Western dishes, plus beer, cocktails and wine. Drinks are cheaper during happy hour. It’s busiest between around 10 and 11:30 pm.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed: tourists of all ages, Thais after work and expats, many of them regulars. The service in particular gets praise. If you want a front-row seat, come early.
A good fit if you …
- want a relaxed start to the evening
- like people-watching
- like karaoke
Not ideal if you …
- want to dance
- are looking for a quiet corner to talk
