What makes REM Bar special
The Rembrandt has been a gay meeting place since the mid-1960s, making it older than today’s Gay Village. Today the corner pub is called REM Bar and sees itself as a community pub in the heart of the Village. In the same building is Club Tropicana, open until 5 am on Fridays and Saturdays.
There are tables outside from which you can watch the goings-on on Canal Street. There is a happy hour, theme nights and a drag show on Sundays.
Atmosphere and crowd
The pub is popular with bears and the leather scene; the crowd is mostly male and mostly over 40. If you are part of the scene, you quickly find company here.
A good fit if you …
- are part of the bear or leather scene
- are looking for an uncomplicated pub with history
- want to party on at Club Tropicana until 5 am at the weekend
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a cocktail bar
- are looking for an under-30 crowd
