What makes UBQ special
UBQ is upstairs on Smith Street, just a few doors from Mollie’s. It is one of the liveliest queer bars on the street and wants to be more than a pub: a meeting place for the whole community, with a main bar and a smaller rear bar. The programme features drag cabaret, Queeroke, quiz nights and theme parties, plus cocktails, small plates and pizza.
From Thursday to Saturday the party goes on until 3 am; Wednesdays and Sundays are more relaxed.
Atmosphere and crowd
The atmosphere is open and warm, and the crowd diverse and of every gender, with many from the neighbourhood. At Queeroke half the room sings along. If you are looking for a men-only scene, this is the wrong place; if you like a playful, inclusive bar, it is just right.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for an inclusive, mixed queer bar
- love singing karaoke
- like quizzes and drag
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a men-only bar
- want to go out on a Monday or Tuesday
