What makes Tom’s stand out

Tom’s is on Insurgentes Sur in the Hipódromo district on the edge of Condesa, just a short way south of the Zona Rosa. The bar is considered the only survivor of the gay clubs of the late 1990s and is still the top address for leather and fetish in Mexico City.

The interior is dark, almost gothic, adult films play on the screens, go-gos dance, and there’s a darkroom that fills up at weekends. A ritual: at the peak of the night the DJ plays a Maria Callas aria, after which the strippers dance on the bar. On Tuesdays it’s Tom’s Tuesdays with entry including drink vouchers, traditionally the busiest night of the week.

Atmosphere and crowd

Only men are admitted here, leather guys, bears and cruisers, mostly in their 30s and 40s. Many come alone and still quickly feel at home. With 4.4 stars from over 1,100 reviews, Tom’s is very well received, with praise for the atmosphere and staff.
