What makes Finisterre stand out
Mexico City has a long tradition of baños de vapor, and Finisterre is considered a classic of the gay scene. It’s in San Rafael, three blocks from San Cosme metro station. There’s a large shared steam bath, a dry sauna, showers, private cabins at extra cost and an experienced masseur.
The massages are praised in many reviews and are cheap. The bath is no-frills, a traditional neighbourhood place where atmosphere counts for more than luxury. The staff often speak little English, so a few words of Spanish help. A small tip for a towel and flip-flops is customary.
Atmosphere and crowd
Men of all ages and types come here, mostly from the neighbourhood. It’s busiest on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when many head to the steam bath after a night of clubbing. Guests praise the friendly people, the good steam bath, the massages and the safe, diverse atmosphere.
A good fit if you …
- want to experience real Mexican bathing culture
- are looking for a cheap massage
- want to relax on a weekend morning
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a modern wellness area
- want to go after 9 pm
