What makes Fairytale stand out
Fairytale is in Kallio, the alternative working-class district north of the city centre that’s now known for its bars and young scene. The pub is very small: just a few tables, many of them shared, a bar and a few seats outside in summer.
That’s exactly its charm. Bingo, quiz and karaoke nights make the pub a neighbourhood meeting place. The beer selection is good, the cocktails get praise, and prices are low for Helsinki. There’s no dress code.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mainly locals, plus travellers who quickly find company here. One guest calls Fairytale the friendliest and most welcoming gay pub in Helsinki and the perfect place for solo travellers. At weekends it gets very busy.
A good fit if you …
- are travelling solo and want to meet people
- like bingo, quizzes or karaoke
- want to drink cheaply and cosily
Not ideal if you …
- are coming with a big group
- want to dance
