What makes Struts stand out
Struts sees itself as a community space, founded by and for queer people, with friends explicitly welcome. The decor is theatrical: crystal chandeliers, unusual artworks and an aircraft engine on the ceiling, a leftover from the bar’s former aviation theme. On the mini stage there’s occasional cabaret and drag, and sometimes the owner himself sings at the end.
Time Out praises the cocktails, and other guides describe the bar as friendly and unpretentious, with well-made drinks without any speakeasy posturing. The alcohol-free menu is unusually ambitious.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is relaxed and mostly local. The room is small, so at weekends with a DJ it gets correspondingly crowded and lively; during the week it’s quieter.
A good fit if you …

- like small shows up close
- want to start the evening in Kallio in a relaxed way
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a club with a big dance floor
- want to go out on a Sunday or Monday
