What makes ABC Bailão stand out
It all started in 1996 with the “Amigos Bailam Comigo” parties, held on one Saturday a month. That turned into a permanent club in Vila Buarque, with three bars and a large dance floor. Bailão means something like a big dance night, and that’s exactly what it’s about.
Musically, romantic classics, forró, bolero and samba dominate, plus flashback sets with 70s disco and 80s dance. Guests praise the DJs, the sound and the friendly bar staff. There’s a special programme around the Parada LGBT.
Atmosphere and crowd
ABC Bailão is the meeting place for more mature gay men; younger men and couples are welcome too. One guest from Europe was surprised that there’s a disco specifically for older gay men. The mood is warm and a little nostalgic, and at weekends it’s busy from around 1 am.
