What makes Aloka stand out
Rua Frei Caneca is the gay heart of São Paulo, with bars, cafés and shops around the shopping centre of the same name. The scene has been partying at number 916 since the 1990s, first under the name A Lôca, now as Aloka Club. The club sees itself as an underground venue.
Musically it ranges from pop and disco to electro and techno. The resident team includes DJs such as André Pomba, Ginger Hot and Tico Malagueta, plus changing guest DJs and themed parties. Doors open around 10 pm, and it usually only fills up after midnight.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is queer, colourfully mixed and more alternative than chic. Guests praise the sound and the music selection. Thanks to its location in the middle of the gay district, the club combines well with the bars on Frei Caneca.
A good fit if you …
- want to party in the middle of the gay district
- like electronic music and pop alike
- still want to go out on a Sunday
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out during the week
- are looking for a quiet bar
