What makes Boiler special
Boiler is one of the largest and busiest gay saunas in Berlin. Besides a 90-degree sauna and a milder 60-degree sauna there is a steam maze, a small pool or hot tub, a cinema room, darkroom, rest room under the roof, and a bar and café with an outdoor terrace. Cabins are free for all guests, and entry includes a towel and six hours. Sauna infusions usually run from 5 to 9 pm, Tuesdays have theme nights, and Thursdays bring “Green Thursday” with birch-whisk rituals; massages and hammam rituals cost extra.
Guests praise the cleanliness, modern facilities and friendly staff, who also speak English; the crowd is a colourful mix of ages and body types, rather older in the afternoon and younger late in the evening. The most common criticism concerns queues: on party and festival weekends and Sunday afternoons guests sometimes wait outside for a long time, and some are turned away. Many also find the entry fee expensive and the pool and hot tub rather lukewarm, and if you go over six hours you automatically pay €1.50 for each 20 minutes or part thereof.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for a large, well-kept facility with lots of variety
- like sauna infusions and sauna rituals
- are under 28 or can come early or late
Not ideal if you …
- don’t fancy queuing on busy weekends
- expect a large swimming pool
- don’t like keeping an eye on the clock
