What makes EXPLOSION stand out
Doyama-chō in the Kita district is Osaka’s gay quarter, with many small bars near Umeda station. EXPLOSION is in the basement of the Sanyo Kaikan in the middle of the district. During the week it’s more of a shot and dance bar; on Saturdays there are theme parties with guest DJs, go-go dancers and drag queens, when a cover charge applies.
According to guests, there’s also karaoke here, and the mood is friendly and relaxed.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mostly Japanese, colourfully mixed and very keen on dancing, and travellers are of course welcome. It’s busiest on Saturdays after midnight, when the small bars in the neighbourhood send their guests on.
