What makes Pitchers special
Dave Perruzza opened Pitchers on 18th Street in Adams Morgan in 2018, after many queer bars in Dupont Circle had disappeared. It is a classic sports bar with darts, flat screens and game broadcasts that turns into a drag stage and dance floor in the evening.
In the same building is A League of Her Own (2319 18th St NW), a sporty bar for lesbian, bisexual and queer women and their friends, with its own dance floor, quizzes and drag. The two bars host drag and karaoke nights together.
Atmosphere and crowd
In the early evening fans watch football, basketball or baseball; later drag and DJs take over. Pitchers is mostly male, while A League of Her Own attracts a younger crowd of queer women. The mix makes it one of the most popular queer meeting points in the city.
A good fit if you …
- want to watch a game with a queer crowd
- want to see drag on Thursday with no cover
- want to visit one of the few lesbian bars in the US
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out on a Monday or Tuesday
- are looking for a quiet cocktail bar
