What makes Scarlet special
Scarlet was founded in 2015 by Lanai Tabura and Traver Rains and is in Chinatown opposite the historic Hawaii Theatre. The interior is playful and reminiscent of a dollhouse. On the World Famous Pineapple Stage the drag shows start around 9 pm, after which people dance on two levels.
It is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. There is a cover charge and a flip-flop ban, so if you are coming straight from the beach, pack some shoes. During Honolulu Pride in October the opening party takes place here.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed, queer and straight, locals and travellers. Guests praise the bartenders, the music and the atmosphere on the dance floor.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance queer on Oʻahu
- like drag shows
- want to party late at the weekend
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out during the week
- are wearing flip-flops
