What makes the SF Eagle special
The SF Eagle is in SoMa’s historic Leather District, one of the first officially recognised LGBTQ cultural districts in the US. Its centrepiece is the large, heated outdoor area, plus live music, DJ nights, karaoke and benefit parties.
The Sunday Beer Bust from 3 to 7 pm is legendary: the proceeds go to changing LGBTQ organisations, and the yard fills with leather guys, bears and their friends. It is quieter during the week, and the bar is closed on Tuesdays.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd ranges from leather guys and bears to the curious, and the atmosphere is rough but warm. The bartenders, the atmosphere and especially Sundays, when it gets really busy in the afternoon, get praise.
A good fit if you …
- like the leather and bear scene
- want to party outside on a Sunday afternoon
- like flirting with men from their mid-30s
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out on a Tuesday
- are looking for a stylish cocktail bar
