Skapis
Queer bar & cultural venue · Riga Centrs
Skapis means “wardrobe” in Latvian – and that’s exactly where nobody here wants to stay: this bar by queers for queers is Riga’s most important queer cultural venue, with drag, karaoke, DJs and film nights.

What makes Skapis stand out
In 2023 Skapis moved into the former premises of the legendary club Piens on Aristīda Briāna iela, an address with history in Riga’s nightlife. Since then it has been more than a bar: it’s run by LGBTQ people and sees itself as the centre of queer culture in Latvia.
The programme is correspondingly varied: drag shows, karaoke, pop and electro DJ nights, theme parties and screenings from the queer film festival 2ANNAS. Opening hours follow the programme; it’s usually open from Thursday evening.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed and politically aware: gay men, lesbians, trans and non-binary people, groups of friends and curious travellers, young and old. Guests value Skapis as a place where you can be sure of being who you are.
A good fit if you …
- are looking for queer culture and community
- like drag and karaoke
- want to get to know the Latvian scene
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a club with a darkroom
- want to drop in spontaneously on a Monday
- want to dance until the morning
