Riga

Riga is the largest city in the Baltics – and has a scene that is clustered compactly around the railway station. On top of that, Skapis is a queer cultural venue that shapes the young community.

Around the railway station

On Alfrēda Kalniņa iela there are three addresses right next to each other: the TOP Club with dance floor, lounge and drag shows, the Bunker Cruising Bar and the small Gaysauna.lv. Skapis, in the former premises of the club Piens, has a completely different energy: young queers meet here for drag, karaoke, DJ sets and film nights. At weekends things usually only really get going after midnight.

When to go?

• June – Riga Pride: in 2026 the parade on 13 June ran from the Esplanāde through the centre, followed by a festival. For 2027, check the date with the organisers.
• 2ANNAS – International Queer Film Festival: screenings at venues including Skapis (check the date with the organisers).

Practical tips

• Since 2024, same-sex couples in Latvia have been able to register a partnership with a notary. Society is nonetheless rather conservative: outside the venues it is best to stay discreet.
• TOP Club charges admission from later in the evening – it does no harm to have cash on you.
• The scene addresses are all central and within walking distance; at night it is better to take a taxi via an app.
