Since 1986 Sub has been Munich’s gay and queer centre: café, counselling centre, group rooms and cultural venue under one roof on Müllerstraße, and in 2026 it celebrates its 40th birthday.

What makes Sub special

The association was founded on 4 September 1986 and has been in its current premises on Müllerstraße in the Glockenbachviertel since 2012. Across around 524 square metres Sub combines psychosocial counselling, services on sexual health and chemsex, German courses and mentoring for refugees, the Queer Academy and numerous self-help and leisure groups. The Strong! service against anti-queer violence is also based here.

The heart of it for visitors is the café with library: a low-threshold place to get talking without an entry fee and without party pressure. Around 180 volunteers and 16 staff run the centre. If you’re new to Munich or looking for advice, you’ll quickly find company here, although Sub doesn’t replace a dance floor or a scene bar.
