What makes The Actors special
The Actors is on the western edge of Kemptown, just a few steps from the Royal Pavilion. The pub sees itself as an open neighbourhood pub with its own theatre and as a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. At the Brighton Fringe it won the audience award for best venue in 2023 and 2026.
The theatre shows comedy, cabaret and small plays, with new performances added every week. Tickets are available on the website.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mixed: gay men, lesbians, queer people of all ages and theatregoers. The atmosphere is relaxed; people come to talk, for the quiz or for a show, less to flirt.
A good fit if you …
- like theatre and comedy in a pub
- are looking for a mixed queer pub
- want to have a quiet chat
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a men-only bar
- want to dance
