What makes The Bank Hotel (Birdcage Wednesdays) special
The Bank is not a gay pub as such, but on Wednesdays the upstairs belongs to the queer scene: Birdcage is considered the only weekly party of its kind in Newtown, with DJs, drag and free entry. There is praise for the atmosphere and staff, and criticism of prices and occasionally slow kitchen service. At weekends the crowd is mostly straight.
A good fit if you …
- are out in Newtown on a Wednesday evening
- are looking for a party for lesbians and queers
- like beer gardens
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a queer bar at the weekend
