What makes Woody’s special
Woody’s was founded by Bill Wood and has been in the middle of the Gayborhood for more than 40 years, the queer quarter in the Washington Square West neighbourhood with its rainbow street signs. The bar has several themed lounges on two floors, a dance floor and regular drag shows.
On Fridays and Saturdays Woody’s is one of the busiest places in the city: pop and Top 40 play, and it’s busiest between 11 pm and 1 am. Entry is usually free.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is mostly male and a cross-section of the city: regulars, locals and visitors. At the weekend it’s packed and dance-heavy, while it’s quieter during the week.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance to pop at the weekend
- want to get to know Philadelphia’s Gayborhood
- want to party without a cover charge
Not ideal if you …
- want to go out before 7 pm
- are looking for a quiet bar for conversation
