What makes Zer021 stand out
Zer021 Social Club belongs to Roberto de Faria, whom everyone calls “Mama B”. It’s on Canterbury Street in District Six, on the eastern edge of the city centre. The name is a nod to Cape Town’s dialling code 021. There’s a big dance floor, several bars, karaoke, drag shows and DJ sets with plenty of old-school R&B.
It’s open from Thursday to Sunday, each night until 4 am. Drinks are comparatively cheap.
Atmosphere and crowd
The crowd is as mixed as almost nowhere else in the city, with locals of all ages and backgrounds. The drag shows and the warm, loud atmosphere get particular praise. Locals recommend getting there by Uber.
A good fit if you …
- want to party with Cape Town locals
- like drag and karaoke
- appreciate R&B and house
Not ideal if you …
- are looking for a chic cocktail bar
- want to go out Monday to Wednesday
