What makes Zum Schwejk special
Frankfurt’s gay scene has been meeting at Zum Schwejk for many decades. The atmosphere is typical of a pub: there’s always something going on, mostly Schlager is played, and many guests sing and dance along. Besides numerous standing tables there are couches, and many disco balls hang on the walls.
There is also a large outdoor area right on Schäfergasse. At the entrance you get a slip on which your drinks are noted, and you pay when you leave. Frankfurt apple wine (Äppelwoi) is also served.
Atmosphere and crowd
Schwejk sees itself as a gay pub, and the crowd is mostly male and somewhat older. Thanks to its central location in the Bermuda Triangle near Konstablerwache, tourists and groups also drop by. Because the mood is exuberant, you quickly get chatting. Lucky’s and Comeback are just a few steps away.
A good fit if you …
- want to dance and party to Schlager
- like loud, full pubs
- want to sit outside in summer
Not ideal if you …
- want to talk in peace
- want to go out on a Sunday or Monday, it’s closed then
