Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt is small, but its scene is remarkably compact and lively. Between the banking towers and the Old Town, most of the queer bars are just a few minutes’ walk from one another – ideal for an evening of drifting from bar to bar.

Around Konstablerwache

The centre of the scene is in the city centre near Konstablerwache: bars such as Comeback, Zum Schwejk and Central line Alte Gasse, Schäfergasse and Elefantengasse. Alte Gasse 36 is also home to the AG36 Gay Center and Switchboard, the café-bar and meeting point of the AIDS-Hilfe. A few steps further on, on Große Friedberger Straße, Lucky’s tempts with karaoke and low prices.

When to go?

  • Summer – CSD Frankfurt: Usually in July, with a parade from the Römerberg through the city centre.
  • All year round: Karaoke, drag and themed nights in the Old Town bars – current dates are listed below.

Our favourites

  • For history: Zum Schwejk, a fixture for more than 25 years.
  • For cocktails: Central on Elefantengasse.
  • For a cheap night out: Lucky’s – karaoke on Tuesdays, cash only.
